Music Producer, Global DJ, Songwriter
Luis Ferdinand “Little Louie” Vega Jr., born June 12, 1965 in The Bronx, New York, is a globally celebrated DJ, producer, remixer, and songwriter. Emerging from a deeply musical Puerto Rican family (his father a jazz saxophonist, his uncle the legendary salsa vocalist Héctor Lavoe) he began DJing at age 13, spinning at block parties and club residencies well before he was legally old enough to be in many of the venues. louievega.com+3Wikipedia+3Gray Area+3
Vega was a pioneer of New York house music, blending Latin, Afro‐beat, jazz, soul, gospel, and more into his sound. He gained prominence via residencies at key NYC nightclubs like the Devil’s Nest in the Bronx, Heartthrob, Roseland, Studio 54, and The Palladium among others. Wikipedia+2Gray Area+2
In 1990, he formed the production/remixing powerhouse Masters at Work with Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez. Through this partnership (and various aliases & projects, including Nuyorican Soul), Vega helped define what Latin‐house, soulful house, and garage house could be in both club and mainstream contexts.
Over the years, Vega has released solo albums, collaborative works, remixes, performed live with his “Elements of Life” band, and held down major releases. His more recent album Expansions In The NYC (2022) brings together many collaborators and captures both nostalgia and forward motion in his artistry. Resident Advisor+3Pitchfork+3Wikipedia+3
Vega is a Grammy winner (and multiple‐nominee), a prolific curator of sound, and a mentor/figurehead in global dance music who continues to perform, produce, and evolve. Gray Area+2louievega.com+2
